Xbox Video Games Consoles Expand Options For Gamers

by Bruno Auger

The Xbox is one of the most familiar console video gaming devices on the market. Bill Gates is rumored to have delayed its release for several years to include every bell and whistle of available technology to make it the ultimate gaming machine and one that everyone would want. Computers and the internet have made online gaming more attractive than console games to many game fans, so something was needed to boost the console concept. It was finally marketed late in 2001.

This console includes both a basic computer chip and numerous options for AV connections, and it is compatible with the following: standard AV cable, RF connecter, TOSLINK audio and S-Video, SCART, and High Definition devices. The Xbox can interface with a PC and additional accessories help to make it serviceable as a DVD player. The Xbox connects to the Ethernet cable to either a modem, router, or wireless link, and it's ability to interface with a PC allows for expansion of it's gaming potential, and the new ability to work as a music player or mixer for karaoke singing.

The Xbox controller is an amazing mix of options and functions. No longer the simple joystick of the 1980's, this controller resembles the dashboard of a small airplane. There are many alternate models available, and has two analog control sticks, six buttons, a Back and a Start button, a multidirectional touch pad, and additional slots for accessories. It even comes equipped with a memory card slot which allows gamers to save partially completed games for later playback.

Some games immobilize the memory card option to stave off cheating, but devout Xbox fanatics can usually create a way to hack around many of these protections. A huge benefit of this system is the ability to join in an online multiplayer gaming service. That means that if you have an Xbox, you can play the game with anyone in the world with the same console, regardless of their location. Instead of trying to compete with Internet gamers, Xbox devised a way to get in on the action.

There has been controversy over pricing for this game, with Europe complain that they were being overcharged as much as 100% over the US prices, and new version releases also have had inflated prices. Other complaints have centered on the content and violence of individual game releases. This also has been the same for other brands of similar game consoles.

An Xbox is a great way to provide entertainment possibilities for kids and adults. The prices of the system have gone down and many games are traded and sold at a discount. It still remains one of the most desired gifts for holidays or birthdays and many households have more then one system.
