Online Jobs: "work" Takes On A New, Virtual Meaning
In days past, companies used to conduct their business in physical buildings, whereby the employees had to travel physically to work for the company. However, with the globalization and the availability of advanced communication technologies such as teleconferencing, video conferencing and internet, the meaning of jobs associated with a physical location has changed. Online jobs have become the vogue, where employees need not travel to a specific location to work for their company.
New business opportunities were created with the increase in the usage of the Internet as a communication medium around the world and availability of e-commerce technologies. The best example for this is Internet business, where people can conduct various kinds of business online using the Internet. Availability of creative e-commerce business solutions have made the business transactions such as selling, buying and cash transfers, easier to do using the Internet.
Nowadays, lots of business transactions are being done using the Internet. This opened the doors for online jobs. No longer employees need to travel to a certain location to conduct their business. All they need is an Internet connection and a computer with necessary software. This would create a virtual office for each employee. Mobile computer devices such as palm tops and laptops have made life much easier for employees because they can conduct their business even while they are on the move.
Online jobs are very advantageous to employees as well as employers. They offer a win-win situation for both parties. For employers, they reduce the capital expenditure and man-power costs. For employees, they provide the job flexibility needed, saves the travel time and costs. Employees can decide when and where they would like to work. Even house wives, pregnant women and physically disabled people can do these jobs. Overall, they increase employee productivity and result in improved bottom line for the companies.
In order for online jobs to be successful, the human resource department needs to innovate and devise new methods of increasing employee accountability and performance management. While online jobs are favorable in increasing work flexibility they possess challenges in terms of a less controlled work environment and inculcating team effort to get the job done. Online jobs will be the way forward if the traditional ways of employee management can be overcome.
In the end, it is right to say that online jobs is the right way on. We can't ignore the new business opportunities given by the Internet business and the advantages offered by this type of job. When a business or organisation comes up with innovative ways of facing the challenges, I am pretty certain that such business organisations will be able to beat the competitors and have success.
Past physical aspects of business have advanced with communication technologies so workers no longer need to travel or be geographically present. Internet development increased global opportunities for new business opportunities and online jobs. Virtual internet business requires computers (even portable ones) connections, and software, but little travel. Jobs are more flexible and convenient for employees and more affordable for employers. Those who would have been excluded from reporting to jobs can handle work at home or on the move. They are, however, more difficulty to monitor so accountability and performance become challenging. Innovative systems are needed to make such unbounded systems thrive.
