Voluntary Benefits Provide Peace Of Mind For Employers And Employees

by Michael Chapman

A lot of employees are already enjoying the usual benefit packages of life, insurance, standard family health insurance, pension or retirement packages, 401ks and more. Although these benefits help to provide a standard level of security and comfort to most full time employees, some workers may want to add supplemental benefits to these.

A lot of companies are currently giving this additional benefits through voluntary benefits programs. Voluntary benefits programs offer a win-win opportunity for both the employer and the employee. The employer does not have to pay for the benefits that a worked is not wanting, while the employee is allowed to buy only the benefits that will be most effective to him/her.

One of the more popular voluntary benefits is accident insurance. Companies like Colonial Insurance and AFLAC have popularized the notion of having accident insurance which will help cover expenses above and beyond medical expenses if an employee has to miss work due to injury.

Companies such as Colonial Insurance and Aflac advertise something called a supplemental insurance plan, which can be used to pay for groceries and other household items, utility bills, mortgage payments, car payments, and other expenses incurred by a worker who may become unable to work due to an injury. This type of insurance can provide a great deal of relief to families whose income is chiefly provided by dangerous employment.

Several voluntary benefits may be offered to employees at the work site. These benefits include: heart/stroke insurance, cancer insurance, vision & dental insurance programs. If the employee's family has a history of such diseases, these benefits may be especially important. Since employers typically pay administrative costs, such programs can also be beneficial to the employers, as well as the employees.

In the ever more competitive global economy, where employers are searching for anyway possible to stay competitive, offering worksite marketing of voluntary benefits to employees helps the employer to provide the kind of coverage that is best for each employee. Because of this voluntary benefits from companies like Colonial Insurance and AFLAC are quickly on the rise and will continue to become more and more popularized in the years to come.

Many companies are offering standard benefits packages but also are starting to offer voluntary benefits. These are benefits, such as accident insurance, offered by companies such as AFLAC and Colonial Insurance, which allow the employee peace of mind while minimizing costs to employers. Other types of these benefits include dental and specific condition insurance, such as stroke or heart attack insurance, or can be specialized insurance for employees in dangerous occupations. Companies offering both types of packages can be more competitive in the marketplace, especially as they become more popular.
